Tryout Structure Information

  • Players will be divided into two age groups, going at different times of the day.
  • U8-U10 and U11-U14.
  • Within each tryout, players will be broken up into sub age groups
  • U8, U9/U10 and U11/U12, U13/U14.
  • Tryouts will be 2 days long, depending on the number of kids, and last around 2.5 hours each day. 

PlayMetrics

Tryouts will be run through the Playmetris software, with all player information contained in the application.



  • Player evaluations will be done through this software, from ranking abilities to specialized comments,
  • Therefore you will need to download this application and make an account. 
  • Upon registering for tryouts, parents will be asked questions regarding:
  • Player information, availability (Fall and/or Spring), location preference (local vs traveling), and competition preference (NYSL vs Spirit).
  • We will use this information, along with skill level seen at tryouts, in order to make teams.


Team Formation

Our goal is to put athletes on a team which will result in the most enjoyable, safe, and constructive experience. There are many factors to consider including, but not limited to, height, weight, skill set, prior soccer experience, travel availability and overall team needs at each level. Nebraska State Soccer age groups are designated by birthdays between August 1st to July 31st. For example, U11 would apply to players born between August 1, 2015 and July 31, 2016. Teams must be rostered to the age group of the oldest player on the team, but teams and individual players can request to play up an age group for league play. 


Teams created will be placed into the appropriate division within NYSL in order to challenge their growth through healthy competition. This will be done through discussion with Junior Bolts coaches and administration, in conjunction with the NYSL director. 


In the NYSL, there are four divisions of competition within each grade (I, II, III, IV). Teams will be designated Green, Gold, Yellow, and White for divisions I, II, III, and IV, respectively. Teams will be distinguished by their division, age, and gender (eg. Junior Bolts Gold U11B, Junior Bolts Green U9G).
